Leighton Town Under 11 Rangers travelled to Woburn to play Woburn Lions for the MK Cup.
Following last year’s disappointing defeat in the final, Rangers were determined to make amends and ensure the trophy came back to Bell Close.
An early goal by Brett Freeman settled the nerves, and when Damian Lewis slotted home Ranger’s second it looked as if a rout could be on the cards.
However, the Woburn side, sitting two divisions below Ranger’s, dug in and ensured that Ranger’s did not have everything their own way when they pulled a goal back mid way through the first half.
Ranger’s reacted well and continued to play some mesmerising attacking football. With the second half in full flow, it fell to Joe Keirnan to put the game beyond Woburn’s reach with two goals in the space of five minutes.
Woburn to their credit did not roll over and scored a deserved second in the dying moments but it was too late to stop Rangers from taking the spoils and it was left to Mitchel Greany to lift the Cup.
Ranger’s now need to win their last three league games to ensure a double winning season of MK Cup and MK Division 1 Championship.
Squad: Tyler Cameron, Brett Freeman, Nick Taylor, Mitchell Greany, Joe Kiernan, Damian Lewis, Jake Stocker, Nicky Walton, Ben Arnott, Niall Wagner, Caiius Payne, George Zammit, Jack Lane.
