Leighton Town Under 10 Rangers travelled to Shenley Brook End School to be crowned undefeated Division 1 Champions.
Following the presentation the team headed back to the Club to celebrate. Manager Danny Greany, overcome by the whole experience said that he had to go home and lie down.
Leighton Town Rangers wrapped up an outstanding season by clinching the MKDJ7 U10 Division One title and crowning themselves the best team in the league with an emphatic 5-0 win over an inform Scot Youth on 12th May.
The team played an outstanding game of football from first to last whistle, dominating the game and showing why they won the league with a 100% unbeaten record.
Manager Danny Greany was absolutely delighted for his team and said “This has been a great reward for the lads and they all fully deserve it. They have shown true quality all season and their commitment and team spirit is incredible. The hard work we have put in on the training ground has finally paid dividends. I am tremendously proud of the boys by what they have achieved but this is only the beginning of a great adventure together.”
The team then celebrated in style with the obligatory champagne shower and lap of honour to the chants of the ever loyal supporters.
Unfortunately the boys just missed out on a league and cup double losing out in the final on the dreaded penalty shoot out. The final held at Shenley Brook End School in Milton Keynes on the 19th May was a game that could always throw out the form book. Despite long spells of dominance, Town were unable to break the well organised MK Wanderers defence. With time running out Town threw everything at MK but when the final whistle blew it was left to a test of nerve. MK held theirs and won the resulting penalty shoot out 2 -1.
Despite the set back Rangers can be proud of their achievements. Well done lads on a magnificent season.
Squad: Tyler Cameron, Alfie Ballard, Brett Freeman, Kieran Goodger, Mitchell Greany, Joe Kiernan, Damian Lewis, Daiton Thomas, Nicky Walton, Niall Wagner, Caiius Payne, George Zammit, Jack Lane.
